We have stopped by the Smith and Barrel several times now. Always very friendly and helpful staff. The shrimp curry is excellent! The mushroom pasta dish is also amazing. There are a few different spots to sit all comfortable with good music and a relaxed atmosphere. A great addition to Carleton Place.
What a spectacular evening we had here. The atmosphere was great and the food was even better. Extremely reasonable prices for the level of food and the very generous portions. The concept is elevated pub fare and good god do they ever deliver. We each had a starter, a main, and several cocktails, and literally everything was showstopping. Our server was super friendly and knowledgeable, as well. We cant wait to come back in the summertime and enjoy the massive patio!
I had a burger that was good. Nothing especial and my wife had the Cod sandwich.The fish smelled and tasted like ammonia. We where told that was normal due to some sort of packaging!!!!!!! She ate only 1/4 of her sandwich and was not offered any apologies. We will not be back.
We had dinner here with two other couples and the whole experience was great. We were seated upstairs in the pub and the decor and ambiance were perfect, period wallpaper, stamped tin ceilings, really nice. Servers were fantastic although you could tell they were still getting used to the menu. Any questions they couldn't answer they went and saw the chef and came back with the response. We tried the Mac and Cheese croquettes for appetizers as well as the fried pickles...all of it was amazing. The mains were great, my steak was cooked to perfection and tender, portions were large and food was delivered hot. I would love to try the actual dining room next as the pub certainly delivered above expectations. Glad to see such a great spot open in CP.
Pub was fantastic. Friendly staff. Food was better than I'd expect at a pub. Makes me wonder how great their fine dining must be. The soup was probably the best I've ever had. I had the ribs. Delicious. Great flavor so tender not greasy at all. Wife loved her prawn curry. Neither of us could finish our meals. Huge portions. Great value for the price.
